New Year, New You!

I hope that 2013 has gotten off to a good start for you. Personally, I always like this time of year. For me, it is a time to always get refocused: Reflecting on this past year; being thankful for things learned; setting goals and reorganizing priorities for the new year. That is what I have been doing the past couple of weeks (please excuse the two week absence from blogging/emailing).

My biggest goal for the year, in terms of my practice, is to be better at educating my clients and practice members. I feel I have not done a very good job explaining what chiropractic truly is and the benefit of staying well adjusted -even when there is zero pain or symptoms. I want to apologize for that. Therefore, I am going to start a Health Care Class at my office. All new clients will be welcome and invited to come to these classes, and, of course, all current clients that want to hear what I have to say will be welcome to attend. I am planning on doing these talks on the 2nd & 4thThursday of every month here at the office. As you know, space is limited, but we will make it work.

Beyond in-office educational Health Care Classes, I plan on getting even more outside of my comfort zone and do educational talks in the community. Since being more consistent with my email/blog in 2012, there has been increased buzz and conversation about daily Lifestyle choices that matter. Day in and day out I read and study medical research and educational materials about things like: Processed foods, Genetically Modified Organisms, Toxins, Proper Supplementation, Antioxidants, Omega-3 Fats, Vaccines, Cholesterol, Glutathione, Vitamin D, etc. It is time to get out from behind the screen a little and start having real life conversations about these kind of things. These "things" are not chiropractic, but they are a part of wellness, therefore I feel an obligation to educate about them. Plus, who else is doing it?!

As we all know, we live in an information age. There is so much information out there available to everyone, which is a great thing, but you need to be careful about everything you are reading, being told, and being told to read. Not all information is good information. I will always strive to do my best in providing my practice members/patients, causal email/blog readers, friends, family and loved ones that the very best sound and unbiased information I can.

In terms of "change" for the better -health, diet, food, fitness, relationships, growth, etc. we need to be willing to get out of our comfort zone. That's why I like this image for the start of 2013:

Personally, I am starting off my year with our 14-day Clean Start Detox Program and my first attempt at the 60 Day Insanity Workout. Should be fun, and maybe a little "uncomfortable", but I know I will be feeling better about myself and my health when I am complete. Are you making time or planning for daily movement and good food choices?

With an open mind and a willingness to be healthy, we can learn from each other and make this a better community one person at a time. That is a big thing!

I hope 2013 is the best year yet for you and yours. I want to close this first email/blog of the year with a prayer from Rev. Billy Graham:

Our Father and our God, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future.

We each have our hopes and expectations for the year that is ahead of us-but You alone know what it holds for us, and only You can give us the strength and the wisdom we will need to meet its challenges. So help us to humbly put our hands into Your hand, and to trust You and to seek Your will for our lives during this coming year.

In the midst of life's uncertainties in the days ahead, assure us of the certainty of Your unchanging love.

In the midst of life's inevitable disappointments and heartaches, help us to turn to You for the stability and comfort we will need.

In the midst of life's temptations and the pull of our stubborn self-will, help us not to lose our way but to have the courage to do what is right in Your sight, regardless of the cost.

And in the midst of our daily preoccupations and pursuits, open our eyes to the sorrows and injustices of our hurting world, and help us to respond with compassion and sacrifice to those who are friendless and in need. May our constant prayer be that of the ancient Psalmist: "Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end" (Psalm 119:33).

We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world. We pray especially for Your protection on all those who serve in our armed forces, and we thank You for their commitment to defend our freedoms, even at the cost of their own lives. Be with their families also, and assure them of Your love and concern for them.

Bring our divided nation together, and give us a greater vision of what You would have us to be. Your Word reminds us that "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12).

As we look back over this past year we thank You for Your goodness to us-far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on Your past goodness or forget all Your mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this year.

And so, our Father, we thank You for the promise and hope of this new year, and we look forward to it with expectancy and faith. This I ask in the name of our Lord and Savior, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come.

Amen -Dr. Billy Graham

Let's make this a good year!

Yours in Health,

Dr. David Mason

1 Peter 4:10-11As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies-in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  • "I was experiencing a stiff neck and painful low back with limited ranges of motion. My results were much improved range of motion and low back pain was eliminated. After adjustments and a couple of massages, I played my best round of golf of the year - pain free!"
