Phase 2: Corrective Care

Teaming Up for Optimal Health

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a patient's care. If the chiropractor and/or patient discontinues adjustments and progress after the pain is gone, however, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. Adjustments for pain alone is what Dr. Mason refers to as "band-aid" care. Getting to the root cause or underlying reason the pain developed is called Corrective or Restorative Care: the necessary part of the plan to restore optimal nervous system function even though your symptoms are gone.

During the correction / restorative phase of your care, you typically will not have to be adjusted as often as you were during the first phase of care. Depending on your particular circumstance (age, nutrition, fitness -level of "health"), you may be in a restorative phase for a few months to a few years.

Exercises and stretches that target better posture and core stability will typically be introduced during this phase of care, and will be strongly encouraged for you to do at home to help accelerate your healing.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

  • "I was experiencing a stiff neck and painful low back with limited ranges of motion. My results were much improved range of motion and low back pain was eliminated. After adjustments and a couple of massages, I played my best round of golf of the year - pain free!"
